Every great project faces a “darkest hour.” In April 2023, massive ocean surges—exacerbated by the dredging and wall expansions at Eko Atlantic—breached our defenses. The sight was sobering: sheet piles destroyed and 80% of the land submerged.
Construction came to a halt. While many would have walked away, the team at The Carnelian stayed. We realized that to build something timeless, we had to wait for the environment and the city’s infrastructure to evolve alongside us. We didn’t lose our vision; we just waited for the tide to turn.
